Official Opening of SACAA’s Office

Saturday, July 20th, marked a ‘new page ‘ in the SAC Alumni Association’s book. Due to damage caused by  successive hurricanes, the alumni office, which for many years, was originally located on the campus of St. Augustine’s College, Fox Hill, could no longer be used.  This, combined with the fact that the former office space  is slated to become an integral  part of the field of dreams project, meant that the SACAA executives had to find a location to where alumni business could be relocated. In true SAC fashion, Mr. Fred Albury owner of the AutoMallrose to assist us by generously donating  office space in the Toyota Automall Showroom building on the corner of Buen Retiro Rd and Shirley Street.  After the prayer and blessing by Alumnus Bishop Arnold Josey (Recipient of this year’s Uncle Lou Award), and the ribbon cutting by Alumnus Fred Albury and President Cherelle Cartwright, the office was officially opened for business

The SACAA President, Cherelle Cartwright said , “We believe in saying THANK YOU to people who have reached out to us to make everything we do successful!  HEARTFELT THANKS, GRATITUDE, & ETERNAL BLESSINGS to: Mr. Fred Albury for our office,  Mrs. Mynez Sherman and Ms. Mia Campbell for office supplies, Mr. Ian Wilkinson for donating our printer. There were also several persons who helped to make the opening a success, “Mrs. Lydia Isaacs for donating balloons, LIMEADE Bahamas for our refreshments, Mrs. Rosemary Knowles & Ms. Stacy Brown who prepared the eats, Mrs. Pam Haven who donated our table arrangements, Bahfari Films and Mr. Earl Thompson Jr. for our PR coverage and Bishop Arnold Josey who led us in prayer and blessed our office.”

“Thanks also goes out to  amazing Executive team members who either gave donations or their time to help setup and execute the event, like VP Jannifer Thurston, Secretary Donnette Sands, Assistant Secretary Phelice Jones,  Legacy Chairman Pete Rolle,  Assistant Treasurer Osbourne Moxey, Finance Committee and IT whiz Theo Moss and our Events Committee/ social media guru Kendria Ferguson!”.

The office opening was also used as an opportunity to announce two upcoming projects; firstly, the Scholarship fundraising Mix and Mingle scheduled for  August 3rd, 7pm at the BMW showroom on Shirley Street, and secondly, The 2nd Annual  Lighthouse Awards and Gala, slated for October 26th at the Hilton.

The Mix and Mingle at the BMW showroom will launch fundraising efforts to establish a scholarship fund for current and prospective students at SAC who meet the requirements. An entrance fee of $30 will be collected at the door and pledges will be accepted. This event is opened to the public so feel free to support such a worthy cause. Cost includes food and a beverage.

The Lighthouse Awards &Gala will be held under the patronage of Mrs. Patricia Minnis, wife of the Prime Minister.  This year’s distinguished honorees are: Sir Michael Barnett, Malcolm Adderley, Bishop Arnold Josey, Kevin Cambridge, Dr. Jacinta Higgs, Dr. Giavana Jones, Dr.Charlene Wallace, Dr. P.
